I often get asked by friends and family what life was like this year as an entrepreneur. Many people think the entrepreneurial lifestyle is something that only a super hero could endure. They associate words like freedom, excitement and adventure to the entrepreneur. A key word that is often overlooked to describe entrepreneurs is risk. The life of a true entrepreneur is exciting and full of challenge, adventure and risk. But what every 9-5er seems to forget is that the risk is what generates the reward.
Entrepreneurs live on the outer limits of their comfort zones. The days of a steady paycheck are gone. Ask any 9-5er to give up their paycheck at the end of the week and see the fear and realization in their eyes of what the entrepreneurial life is all about.
I always enjoy meeting people that say, “Boy I have a great idea that could make millions.”
I always ask the same question, “What is holding you back from doing it?”
Usually the answer is the same. “I have too much responsibility to go into business for myself.”
I get insulted by that answer.
The truthful answer should be “I don’t believe in myself or my abilities. I have settled for being average and ordinary. I can’t influence others to help me achieve my dreams. I don’t have the ability to achieve. If I did have a good idea I am not willing to sell it because I can’t sell my way out of a paper bag. I am not responsible enough to set my own hours and work a plan to achieve my dreams. I prefer to let my boss take responsibility for me, and my family. ”
The true entrepreneur is the person who is a believer. You have to believe in yourself, believe in what you are doing and most of all believe in your dreams.
The true entrepreneur must have an ability and desire to sell. All great entrepreneurial fortunes started with an entrepreneur who were able to sell their vision to others.
The true entrepreneur always sets goals and works diligently toward their achievement. The true entrepreneur works harder than the competition, works longer hours, studies the latest sales materials and never ever gives up.
The reality is that entrepreneurs work harder and longer than anyone. They endure great amounts of stress and challenge. The best thing about entrepreneurs is that they are responsible for themselves, their lives, their employees and the economies of every free nation on earth.
Everyone has dreams of what they want to accomplish in their lives. Only entrepreneurs are willing to risk it all to achieve their dreams and aspirations.
Entrepreneurs are the last true adventurers, they are for-runners of progress. Entrepreneurs make the world an exciting place.
